Topics: Selling, Finished Jewelry

Q.
I'm going to start selling some of my jewelry online. I've done some research and it seems that sterling clasps and sterling earwires are the most popular and give a better impression of quality. My question is, do others that sell their jewelry use sterling headpins, eyepins and stringing material? Or is just the clasp and beads enough? Some of my designs would be extremely expensive if I used all sterling. Thanks,
- Eve

The decisions made with each design sold are based on the maker and the market. Personally, if I'm using precious metal clasps and earwires, I do continue that through to headpins and other findings but then I charge accordingly. If your market would not carry a sale at the price required when using all precious metals, then you can use base or plated metals to finish your designs, just be sure to label the designs accordingly so your customers know what is in the design.
