Earrings with Lampworked Glass Beads and Silver Beads

Inspired by the childhood delights of Christmas stockings brimming with toys and treats, these adorable earrings feature lampworked glass giraffe beads and bright, cheery holiday colors.

STEP 1
String onto one silver-plated headpin:
  • 6mm silver-plated flower bead cap
  • Glass lampworked giraffe bead
  • 6mm antiqued pewter rondelle bead
STEP 2
Using the round-nose pliers, grasp the headpin above the rondelle bead strung onto the headpin. With your free hand, bend the top of the wire over the barrel of the pliers to form a 90 degree angle.
STEP 3
Place the pliers into the angled section vertically, so one barrel is above and one is below the wire. Bring the wire up and over the top barrel of the pliers so it is now facing down at an angle.
STEP 4
Reposition the pliers so they are horizontal again, with one barrel in the loop and one out and to the right. With chain-nose pliers, or your free hand, grasp the tip of the wire and direct it behind the length of wire extending below the loop you just created.
STEP 5
Grip across the loop with a pair of chain-nose pliers. Grasp the tip of the wire with flat-nose pliers and wrap it around the straight length of wire, starting from below the loop and working toward the rondelle bead, making approximately three tightly wound wraps. Using the side-cutting pliers, trim any excess wire, then press in the cut end with chain-nose pliers.
STEP 6
Using the flat-nose pliers, grasp the open side of a silver-plated eyepin and gently twist it open. Pass the open loop through the loop formed above the beads in Step 5. Close the loop. String onto the silver-plated eyepin:
  • 5x1.5mm sterling silver rondelle bead
  • 6mm silver-plated flower bead cap
  • 6mm green Malaysia "jade" round bead
  • 6mm silver-plated flower bead cap
  • 6mm antiqued pewter rondelle bead
  • Multicolored lampworked glass cylinder bead
  • 6mm antiqued pewter rondelle bead
  • 6mm silver-plated flower bead cap
  • 6mm green Malaysia "jade" round bead
  • 6mm silver-plated flower bead cap
  • 5x1.5mm sterling silver rondelle bead
STEP 7
Using the chain-nose pliers, grip the wire as close as possible to the rondelle bead then bend the wire to form a 90 degree (right) angle.
STEP 8
Using the side-cutting pliers, cut the headpin to approximately 1/4 inch past the bend.
STEP 9
Form a simple loop by grasping the clipped end of the wire with the round-nose pliers. While pressing the thumbnail of your non-dominant hand into the 90 degree angle of the wire, rotate the pliers away from your body so that the wire is wound around the barrel, forming a complete circle. If necessary, adjust the loop so it is centered.
STEP 10
Repeat Steps 1 - 10 to make the second earring.
