Bib-Style Necklace with Cultured Freshwater Pearls, Swarovski crystals and Glass Beads

STEP 1
Cut the following lengths:
  • Accu-Flex® professional-quality beading wire: one 32-inch length
  • Gold-filled flat cable chain: one 19-inch length, two 1-1/2 inch length and two 6-inch lengths
  • One 15-inch length of knurled double link chain
  • Two 3-inch lengths of gold-filled full hard 18 gauge wire
  • Two 22-inch lengths of gold-filled dead soft 22 gauge wire
  • One 38-inch length of gold-filled dead soft 26 gauge wire
  • Gold-filled square 14 gauge wire: one 9-1/2 inch length and one 2-inch length

Wire Pendants

STEP 2
Form a spiral on one end of the 9-1/2 inch length of 14-gauge square wire then string both 1-1/2 inch lengths of 6x5mm flat cable chain. Continue to manipulate the wire into a wide U shape (approximately 60mm wide). Form a spiral at the opposite end of the wire creating a spiral U shape pendant.
STEP 3
Form a simple loop on one end of the 2-inch length of 14- gauge square wire then continue to form the wire into a U shape (approximately 12mm wide). Form a simple loop on the opposite end of the wire creating a simple loop U shape pendant.
STEP 4
Place the spiral U shape pendant onto the wood block then strike the pendant with even blows using a rawhide mallet to harden the wire. Repeat to harden the simple loop U shape pendant.

Tip: The hardness of the wire will depend upon the number of times the pendant is struck with the mallet. The more times the wire is struck, the more rigid the wire will become.
STEP 5
Beginning at the base of the spiral, wrap one 38-inch length of 26 gauge wire around one end of the spiral U shape pendant several times. String one iris green pearl then wrap the wire around the U shape pendant approximately three times.

Continue to wrap the wire around the U shape pendant adding one iris green pearl between each wrap. There will be a total of approximately 19 pearls.

Wrap the remaining wire several times around the opposite end of the spiral U shape pendant at the base of the spiral to secure. Trim any excess wire.
STEP 6
String one dark peacock pearl onto one 3/4 inch ball headpin then form a simple loop creating a dark peacock pearl drop.

String onto one 3/4 inch ball headpin: one Montana 8mm bicone, one 4x2mm smooth rondelle and one 2.5mm smooth faceted bead then form a simple loop creating a Montana drop.
STEP 7
Pass one jumpring, approximately 3mm, through the simple loop on the peacock pearl drop then close. Repeat to attach a second jumpring creating double jumprings.
STEP 8
Attach one jumpring, approximately 3mm, through one of the previous jumprings on the peacock pearl drop and the loop on one side of the simple loop U shape pendant. Repeat to connect the peacock pearl drop to the opposite side of the simple loop U shape pendant.

Attach the Montana drop to the base of the simple loop U shape pendant.
STEP 9
Using a jumpring, approximately 8mm, connect the loop on one side of the simple loop U shape pendant to the base of the spiral loop on one spiral U shape pendant. Repeat to connect the opposite side of the simple loop U shape pendant to the spiral U shape pendant.

Gold AB Link

STEP 10
Form a simple loop on one end of one 3-inch length of 18 gauge wire then string one glass gold AB 20mm round. Form a simple loop then trim excess wire. Repeat to create a second gold AB link.
STEP 11
Pass one jumpring, approximately 8mm, through the loop on one end of one gold AB link and the last link on one length of chain (Step 2) then close.
STEP 12
Attach the first link on one 6-inch length of chain to the loop on the opposite end of the gold AB link.

Using one jumpring connect the last link on the chain to the loop on one portion of the toggle clasp.
STEP 13
Repeat Steps 11 and 12 to create the second half of the necklace using the second portion of the toggle clasp.

First Strand

STEP 14
Pass one 32-inch length of beading wire through the jumpring connecting the 1-1/2 inch length of chain and the gold AB link (Step 11). Pull the beading wire adjusting the lengths of wires to measure approximately 14 inches and 18 inches.

String one 2.5mm smooth faceted bead onto both lengths of beading wire.
STEP 15
Separate the strands and continue to string the following onto the 14-inch length:
  • Repeat this sequence to string ten sets:
    • Three iris green semi-round pearls
    • One 4x2mm smooth rondelle
    • One iris blue semi-round pearl
    • One 4x2mm smooth rondelle
  • Three iris green semi-round pearls
STEP 16
Continue to string one crimp, two blue zircon 4mm bicones and the jumpring (approximately 8mm) on the second half of the necklace (Step 13). Pass the beading wire back through the beads and the crimp. Pull the beading wire so the crimp rests snug against the jumpring.

Crimp, then trim the excess from the short end of the beading wire. Finish with a 3mm crimp cover.
STEP 17
String the following onto the 18-inch length:
  • Repeat this sequence to string eight sets:
    • Three indicolite 3mm bicones
    • One dark peacock semi-round pearl
    • One 2.5mm smooth faceted
    • One iris blue semi-round pearl
    • One 4x2mm smooth rondelle
    • One Montana 8mm bicone
    • One 4x2mm smooth rondelle
    • One iris blue semi-round pearl
    • One 2.5mm smooth faceted
    • One dark peacock semi-round pearl
  • Two blue zircon 4mm bicones
Repeat Step 16 to secure the strand.
STEP 18
Attach the first link on the 19-inch length of cable chain and the first link on the 15-inch length of knurled double link chain to the jumpring in Step 11.

Attach the last link on each length of chain to the jumpring on the opposite side of the necklace.
STEP 19
Pass approximately one 1/2 inch of one end of one 22-inch length of wire through the bottom loop of one gold AB link then twist the 1/2 inch end and the longer end together (like a twist tie). Loosely wrap the longer end of the wire around the simple loop creating a nest. Bend the remainder of the wire (approximately 1/2 inch) at an angle and then insert it into the nest to secure. Repeat to create a nest on the gold AB link on the opposite side of the necklace.
