Hair Accessory with Feathers, Swarovski Crystal, Purely Silk™ Thread and Accu-Flex® Beading Wire

STEP 1
Using scissors cut ten 28-inch strands of size FFF plum silk thread and seven 28-inch strands of size FFF coral silk thread.

Repeat to cut two 16-inch lengths of 1/4 inch gold organza ribbon.

Repeat to cut one purple leather scrap section 10 inches long and 10mm wide at the center and tapering down to a 3mm point on both ends.

Using flush-cutters cut the following lengths of 0.024 24Kt gold-plated Accu-Flex® professional-quality beading wire:
  • One 9-inch length
  • One 15-inch length
  • One 18-1/2 inch length
STEP 2
Using a Sharpie marker free-hand draw chevron shapes imitating a feather pattern down the length on both sides of the 10-inch leather scrap.
STEP 3
Insert the three ends of the beading wire into one 4x2.5mm brass crimp tube with loop. Using chain-nose pliers compress the center of the crimp tube to secure the wire. Give the wire a tug to ensure the wire is secured to the crimp tube end. If there is any movement, retighten the arrangement and compress more firmly.
STEP 4
String the following components onto the 18-1/2 inch strand of beading wire:
  • One 4mm light amethyst satin bicone bead
  • One 6mm light amethyst AB round bead
  • One 6mm jet nut 2x bicone bead
  • One 4x2.5mm brass crimp tube with loop
Four inches down the strand use chain-nose pliers to compress the center of the crimp tube to secure it to the wire.
STEP 5
Insert the ends of the organza ribbon and one red and brown hackle feather into one gold-plated cord tip. Add a dab of adhesive and use chain-nose pliers to secure cord tip around the ribbon and feather.
STEP 6
Using round-nose pliers and flat-nose pliers open one 4mm gold-plated jumpring and pass it through the loop of the 4x2.5mm brass crimp tube with loop and the loop on the cord tip. Close the jumpring.
STEP 7
String the following components onto the 15-inch strand of beading wire:
  • One 4mm sapphire bicone bead
  • One 6mm olivine bicone bead
  • One 6mm fuchsia bicone bead
  • One 4x2.5mm brass crimp tube with loop
Nine inches down the strand use chain-nose pliers to compress the center of the crimp tube to secure it to the wire.
STEP 8
Insert three peacock feathers and one blue parrot feather into one cord tip. Add a dab of adhesive and use chain-nose pliers to secure cord tip around the feathers.
STEP 9
Using round-nose pliers and flat-nose pliers open one 4mm gold-plated jumpring and pass it through the loop of the 4x2.5mm brass crimp tube with loop and the loop on the cord tip. Close the jumpring.
STEP 10
String the following beads onto the 9-inch length of beading wire:
  • One 3mm rose AB bicone
  • One 4mm light amethyst satin bicone bead
  • One 4mm red magma round bead
  • One 3mm jet nut 2x bicone bead
  • One 4mm red magma round bead
  • One 6mm amethyst AB round bead
  • One 4mm light amethyst satin bicone bead
  • One 4mm topaz bicone bead
  • One 6mm amethyst AB round bead
  • One 4mm red magma round bead
  • One 6mm light rose round bead
STEP 11
Pass the end of the beading wire into one 4x2.5mm brass crimp tube with loop. Using chain-nose pliers compress the center of the crimp tube to secure the wire. Give the wire a tug to ensure the wire is secured to the crimp tube end. If there is any movement, retighten the arrangement and compress more firmly.
STEP 12
Fold the seventeen strands of silk thread in half and attach to the loop of the last 4x2.5mm brass crimp tube with loop with a larks head knot. Using scissors cut one 6-inch length off of the bottom of one plumb strand and set aside. Separate the strands into three bundles and braid the strands for 5-1/2 inches.
STEP 13
Use the 6-inch strand to create a whipping/binding knot at the end of the 5-1/2 inch braid incorporating into the binding knot one brown hackle feather. Add a dab of glue before binding (optional).
STEP 14
Using scissors trim the silk thread ends in a random pattern of lengths.
