Double-Strand Necklace and Earring Set with Swarovski Crystal, Kumihimo Silk Cord and Wirework

Crystal Focal Pieces

STEP 1
Using flush-cutters cut the following lengths of sterling silver-filled wire:
  • Eight 4-1/2 inch lengths of square 20-gauge wire
  • Two 5-inch lengths and four 24-inch lengths of square 26-gauge wire
STEP 2
Match the ends of two 4-1/2 inch lengths of 20-gauge wire. Starting 1-1/4 inch from the first end of the 20-gauge wire, wrap a 24-inch length of 26-gauge wire around the first 20-gauge wire for three wraps to secure it to the larger wire. Pass the wire in a figure eight around the second 20-gauge wire then continue to wrap it for 3 wraps.

Continue to cross between the two 20-gauge wires for three wraps on each wire to connect the two larger wires together for 2 inches. Leave the excess 26-gauge wire. Pass the two lengths of connected 20-gauge wire through the center of a Swarovski red magma 20mm cosmic triangle crystal, and position the crystal in the center of the wires. Fold the ends of the wires back together matching where the 26-gauge wire begins and ends on the larger wire.

Wrap the remaining 26-gauge wire around the remaining four lengths of 20-gauge wire for three to four wraps to secure the wires in place. Use flush-cutters to trim any excess 26-gauge wire. Fold the four remaining ends of the 20-gauge wire 180 degrees around the front of the wire loop with the last 1/4 inch of each of the wires over the top of the cosmic triangle. Use round-nose pliers to curl the end of two of the wires to the right and two of the wires to the left. Repeat to create four wire-wrapped cosmic triangle focal pieces.

Kumihimo Cord

STEP 3
Using flush-cutters cut two 5-inch length of 26-gauge wire.

Using scissors cut two 144-inch lengths of rust 1mm imitation silk cord and two 144-inch lengths of lilac imitation size FFF silk thread.
STEP 4
Match one end of two 144-inch lengths of rust cord and two 144-inch lengths of lilac silk thread. Fold all four strands in half and match up the ends, creating eight strands. Wrap the end of one 5-inch length of 20- gauge wire around the center of the cords two to three times to secure the cords to the wire.
STEP 5
Place the wire through the center of the kumihimo disk, and place the rust cord strands through the slots on the top of the kumihimo disk and the lilac thread through the bottom slots on the disk. Braid the cord in a basic flat 8 cord pattern for 24 inches.
STEP 6
Remove the disk from the cords. Tie the cord ends in an overhand knot to secure the the braid. Tighten the knot.
STEP 7
Place a small amount of E-6000® Jewelry and Craft adhesive on end of the braided cords. Pass the end of a 5-inch length of 26-gauge wire through the end of the braided cord over the adhesive and tightly wind the wire around the woven cord to secure the cord in place.
STEP 8
String onto the woven cord the four wire-wrapped Swarovski red magma 20mm cosmic triangle crystals (through the open space of the wirebail directly above the crystal). Space the wire wrapped crystals on the cord starting at 8 inches from the first end then approximately 2 inches apart.
STEP 9
Pass the straight end of the wire through one silver-finished 8x8mm cord end and one Swarovski red magma 4mm bicone crystal bead. Using a pair of chain-nose pliers, round-nose pliers and flush-cutters, form a wrapped loop on the straight end of the wire.

Repeat Steps 7 and 9 to attach one silver-finished 8x8mm cord end and one Swarovski red magma 4mm bicone crystal bead to the opposite end of the woven cord necklace.
STEP 10
Using a pair of chain-nose pliers and flat-nose pliers, open a 5mm jumpring. Pass it through the loop on the hook portion of the clasp and wrapped loop above the bead cone on the first end of the woven cord. Close the jumpring. Repeat to attach the eye portion of the clasp and the wrapped loop on the second end of the woven cord.

Beaded Necklace

STEP 11
Open a 5mm jumpring. Pass it through the hook portion of the clasp. Close the jumpring. Repeat to attach a 5mm jumpring to the eye portion of the clasp.
STEP 12
Using flush-cutters cut a 28-inch length of Accu-Flex® professional-quality beading wire. String onto the wire one crimp tube, a silver-plated Accu-Guard™, and the jumpring on the hook portion of the clasp. Pass the wire back through the crimp tube, leaving one end of the wire approximately 1-inch long. Pull the crimp tight against the Accu-Guard. Place a small amount of adhesive (Loctite®) inside the crimp (optional).

Using the crimping pliers, crimp the crimp tube. Using flush-cutters, trim the excess wire from the short end.
STEP 13
String onto the beading wire the following:
  • One Swarovski red magma 6mm round crystal, one Swarovski violet 4mm bicone crystal, and one Swarovski red magma 6mm round crystal
  • Seven sets of one Swarovski red magma 6mm round crystal, one Swarovski violet 4mm bicone crystal, one Swarovski red magma 8mm round crystal, one Swarovski violet 4mm bicone crystal, and one Swarovski red magma 6mm round crystal

String on one crimp tube, a silver-plated Accu-Guard and the jumpring on the eye portion of the clasp. Pass the wire back through the crimp tube, pulling the wire tight against the last bead. Make sure there is no slack along the length of the necklace. Place a small amount of adhesive inside the crimp (optional).

Using the crimping pliers, crimp the crimp tube. Using flush-cutters, trim excess wire from the end.
