Single-Strand Necklace and Earring Set with Plastic Rhinestone and Rhodium-Finished "Pewter" Brooch, Dione® Large-Hole Beads, Epoxy and Silver-Plated Brass Focals and Kumihimo Waxed Cotton Cord

When I create jewelry for a customer, I like telling a story through my designs and sometimes it can be difficult to express myself verbally. This loss of words inspires me to convey my message with jewelry and accessories. Creating meaningful jewelry allows me to express myself artistically and wearing, selling or gifting this meaningful jewelry speaks a thousand words.

Necklace

STEP 1
Using 2-part epoxy, glue one silver-plated 9x6.5mm leaf bail to the back top center of one rhodium-finished and rhinestone USA flag brooch. Set aside and allow adhesive to dry.
STEP 2
Using flush-cutters, cut two 6-inch lengths of silver-finished 22-gauge Zebra Wire™.

Using scissors cut the following lengths of 0.5mm waxed cotton cord:
  • One 8-foot length of red
  • One 8-foot length of blue
  • Two 8-foot lengths of white
STEP 3
Fold all four lengths of cord in half. Pass a 6-inch length of wire through the fold of the cord then wrap the wire 2 - 3 times around the cord, leaving the long end of the wire straight.
STEP 4
To set up the kumihimo disc, insert strands into the slots on either side of the dots with white in top slots #32 and #1 and bottom slots #17 and #16, the red color in right side slots #8 and #9 and the blue color in left side slots #24 and #25.

Tips: Wind your cords and beaded cords onto Huggy Spool® bobbins to help avoid tangling

Hang a fishing weight from the tail of your cord to help maintain constant tension
STEP 5
Following a standard 8-strand braiding pattern, create a 20-inch three-color spiral braid.
STEP 6
Cut the cords leaving a 3/4 inch tail and fold the tail in half. Pass a 6-inch length of wire through the fold of the cord then wrap the wire 2 - 3 times around itself, leaving the long end of the wire straight.
STEP 7
Pass the straight end of the wire through one antiqued silver-plated 15x11mm cone and one silver-plated 4x4mm double cone bead.
STEP 8
Using round-nose pliers, curved chain-nose pliers and flush-cutters, create a wrapped loop on the straight end of the wire.
STEP 9
Open one silver-plated 8mm twisted jumpring and pass it through the wrapped loop and the loop on the bar portion of the toggle clasp. Close the jumpring.

Repeat for double jumprings.
STEP 10
Pass the opposite end of the cord with wire tail through the following:
  • One red 14x8mm rhinestone rondelle bead
  • One clear 14x8mm rhinestone rondelle bead
  • One blue 14x8mm rhinestone rondelle bead
  • One antiqued pewter tube with loop
  • One blue 14x8mm rhinestone rondelle bead
  • One clear 14x8mm rhinestone rondelle bead
  • One red 14x8mm rhinestone rondelle bead
STEP 11
Repeat Steps 7 - 9 to attach the cord to the ring portion of the toggle clasp.
STEP 12
Open the pin back on the USA brooch and string on the following:
  • One #6 rainbow transparent clear seed bead
  • One silver-plated and epoxy blue star cluster focal
  • One #6 rainbow transparent clear seed bead
  • One silver-plated and epoxy clear star cluster focal
  • One #6 rainbow transparent clear seed bead
  • One silver-plated and epoxy red star cluster focal
  • One #6 rainbow transparent clear seed bead
Close the pin back.
STEP 13
Open one silver-plated 8mm twisted jumpring and pass it through the loop on the leaf bail and the loop on the tube bead. Close the jumpring.
STEP 14
Optional: Use E-6000® Jewelry and Craft Adhesive to secure the rhinestone rondelle beads to desired position on the braided cord. Set aside and allow adhesive to fully dry.
