Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?
Worcester, Massachusetts

Describe your artistic style.
My current artistic style would be detailed. I like to find something new in a project every time I view it.

What inspires you as a designer-artist?
I am inspired by life really, it can and has been anything from a building to a beautiful flower that has inspired me.

What materials do you most enjoy working with?
Currently I love working with beads. I have worked with many mediums but beads have my attention again.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Earth, Wind and Fire

What inspired this design?
The color of the beads and geometric shapes.

How did it come together?
This piece had no plan other than starting with four circles. The rest I was just having fun with the bead colors.

Share Your Background

When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
One time as a child while shopping a second hand store, I found a pouch that was covered in beads and I fell in love. Then I remember going to a craft store after that and I went down a bead aisle, I was amazed, and realized I could make something out of beads like that pouch. I wanted to open the packages, and touch the beads.

Who introduced you to beading?
No one introduced me really, my family isn't that artistic.

Do you have an artistic background?
My artistic background is I see something I like and I figured out how it is done and experiment. I have had about a half semester of art 101 in college. I wish I had more but during that semester I had a brain aneurysm and had to leave college. I will one day go take more classes.

How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and Beads®?
Someone on a forum posted a link. I spent the next few weeks shopping and making my wish lists.

What other hobbies do you have?
Oh so many, my friends say my hobby is hobbies. I have done cross stitching, painting (watercolors, acrylic and oils), lampworking, baking, drawing and jewelry making to just name a few. I love trying anything artistic and crafty out.

Do you belong to any beading societies or beading groups?
No, not at the moment but this question has reminded to go join some...lol

Beading Success

What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
I have until recently just made things and given them to friends and family. A new friend recently showed me that I could sell my art work, so the making money thing is very new to me and I still have a regular job.

If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
Like I said selling my art work is new to me. I went to my first flea market this summer and was amazed when my first items sold. I do have a site, that I just show my work, and have an Etsy site as well. I am still getting everything together currently.
