Clayssic Lapis
Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?
Phoenixville, Pennsylvania

Describe your artistic style.
I enjoy creating everything from classic to eclectic designs.

What inspires you as a designer-artist?
My imagination.

What materials do you most enjoy working with?
Beads, silver, chain, rope, findings. I also enjoy making my own beads.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Clayssic Lapis

What inspired this design?
I wanted to make beads that resembled lapis lazuli.

How did it come together?
I thought about it for a couple days and bought the parts to bring it all together.

Share Your Background

When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
I started when I was a child. Love beads were in style in the late '60s to early '70s and I used to make them and give them to my little friends. I started creating patterns within each piece and created sets...earrings, bracelets, necklaces...and people showed an interest.

Who introduced you to beading?
I introduced myself. There was a neat little corner store that sold sewing goods and fabric. They had a large selection of seed beads, as well. I must have bought every type they had.

Do you have an artistic background?
Yes. I've created many a painting and drawing, taught myself calligraphy, have an extensive musical background, sculpted, sing and like to think of myself as completely "artsy."

How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and Beads®?
I was looking online for sites that sold large quantities of beads and jewelry-making supplies and voila! I found you!

What other hobbies do you have?
Many. I have an art and design studio that incorporates over 30 different trades, all of which started out as hobbies.

Do you belong to any beading societies or beading groups?
I belong to Jewelry Central.

Beading Success

What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
Currently, it is my full time AND part time career. I design during the day and teach part time for three local school districts in the evenings.

If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
I have a Facebook page and have achieved success through that. I also have a Myspace page that I first showed my creations on. I have attended craft fairs and markets and have been successful.

Do you participate in any charity fundraisers?
I am about to donate some of my creations to my boyfriend's sister's cause. She supports Autism.

Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
Let your imagination be your guide. Don't give up. If you don't succeed, try, try again!
