Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?
Bradley Beach, New Jersey

Describe your artistic style.
My artistic style covers a multitude of media as well as millions of ideas. My classic around the house is "what can I make out of that?"

What inspires you as a designer-artist?
All God's creations and music, from a lady bug, to an elephant. From the sky to the bottom of the sea and all that's in between.

What materials do you most enjoy working with?
Polymer clay, beads, wire, pens, pencils and pastels. I love working with color.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Woodland Fantasy Suncatcher

What inspired this design?
From the sky above to the ocean floor.

How did it come together? For example, did you plan it out or did it define itself once you began working?
I've been collecting Cloisonné fish for years and some of Fire Mountain's new pieces helped me picture cloisonné in the sky, on sand and in the sea. The challenge was making a mobile to convey this.

Share Your Background

When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
Jewelry-making and beading started when I was a small child in Cape Cod. I was mesmerized by the bead artists and silver workers.

Who introduced you to beading?
I learned by myself in the "head shops" of the '60s.

Do you have an artistic background?
My mother was an artist, although not as prolific as I became. Her joy was with yarn, painting and miniatures.

How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and Beads®?
I found Fire Mountain Gems on the internet.

What other hobbies do you have?
All of them--woodworking, silver smithing, miniatures. If I haven't done it yet, I will someday!

Do you belong to any beading societies or beading groups?
My own forum at Polymer Clay Central.

Beading Success

What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
I'm always involved, be it working on lessons, posting on message boards, helping others learn and a little sleep!

Do you participate in any charity fundraisers?
When asked I can usually contribute.

Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
How bad do you want it? Then work hard!!!
