|Why Are Your Ads Following Me?
While you've been searching and shopping the web on your computer you may have noticed Fire Mountain Gems and Beads ads unexpectedly appearing in your web browser. Nothing sinister going on here, you are just experiencing something called "remarketing."
What is remarketing?
Remarketing (also known as retargeting) is a way for online companies such as Fire Mountain Gems and Beads to remind you of something you may already want with ads that show items you viewed on our website. The goal is to make the ads you see more relevant and useful to you. It's like having a personal shopper from a store who knows what your interests are and reminds you of products that you asked about, examined firsthand, and maybe tried out or tried on--that's in person remarketing. Who wouldn't appreciate shopping help like that?
|How does remarketing work?
Fire Mountain Gems uses Google and another web company called Criteo that specializes in remarketing. Pages that contain products or categories we wish to promote contain a special code. When you view those products or categories, your web browser receives a "cookie" that allows remarketing ads to be displayed in your browser by the third party company. You will see these ads when you are viewing other websites, checking your email, looking at Facebook or watching a YouTube video.
While some customers appreciate receiving the ads and find them helpful, other customers may consider remarketing ads intrusive or have privacy concerns. Although we don't get information about individual customers who receive these ads, we certainly understand and respect your right to decide whether to receive them.
