When moving a wire screen and trivet into and out of a kiln with a kiln fork, it is helpful if the screen is raised off of the surface of the kiln floor or kiln shelf. Bending the corners or the sides of the wire screen will make it possible to get the fork underneath the screen.
While holding the screen in your non-dominant hand, place the flat-nose pliers on one or two of the wire ends along one edge of the wire mesh. Bend the end to a 90-degree angle.
Continue to work your way down the row of wire screening until you have bent the entire side. You may find it easier to turn the screen as you work your way along the row. You may also find that a cross wire may come loose from the weave--this will not affect your screen's stability or performance.
Review the bend to make sure it is as even as it can be. Then fold the other side so both sides match.
