Article FAQ Question Icon

I am interested in working with metal clay but was wondering if there is a difference between the silver clay and the pure silver that you can buy. Also, if I sold a piece of silver made from the clay, would I have to make a special note of it to the customer or could I just say it is pure silver?

Art Clay® metal clay is made up of fine silver particles suspended in a water-based clay. The clay burns up during firing and what remains is a piece of fine silver. Fine silver is 99.9% silver, as opposed to sterling silver, which is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper or another alloy. Marketing your metal clay jewelry as fine silver is a great idea! Your customers will be pleased to know that the higher silver content means less tarnishing. Want to learn more about this fantastic material?
