I am making earrings and a necklace using 2-3 links. Should I use a round jump ring or an oval jump ring to attach the links?

Either round or oval jump rings can be used in your earrings and necklace. Choose the type that fits best with your design.

When the design doesn't dictate the shape, oval jump rings are often used when you want a charm or element to be less likely to come free from another link. When working with round jump rings, the seam could be at the connection to another jump ring and offer the chance of separation. Oval jump ring seams are always on the side rather than at the top or bottom. This offers a reduced chance for the jump ring to become separated from the connecting links.
