How can I tell what gauge chain a necklace is made of? I want to buy a chain that is the same gauge, but don't know what it is!

A digital caliper or a wire gauge tool can be used to measure the gauge of the metal that is used in the manufacturing of unfinished and finished chain. Manufacturers may define chain by the diameter of round links and measure oval links by the length and width.
