I’m going to be soldering a ring band onto a bezel. What is better for that job—dead soft or half hard?
Half-hard wire is far preferable to dead soft for soldering a ring band to a bezel. You’ll want a material that will really hold its shape for a ring. I would also suggest work hardening the band with a rawhide mallet.
