I want to use pre-made fishhook ear wires but am confused over which gauge is best. I have received earrings that have fishhooks that are TOO thick to go into my pierced ears. Can you clarify which gauge is thick vs thin? Thank you!
When it comes to pre-made fishhook ear wires, gauge size matters. In wire gauge measurements, the higher the number, the thinner the wire. Most comfortable, standard fishhook ear wires are made from 20-gauge wire which is generally safe and comfortable for most pierced ears. Some manufacturers, however, use 18-gauge (1.0mm) wire, which can feel too thick for the wearer.
