Jewelry-Makers Celebrate America's 250th Birthday

Host a “Block Party” or do a charity drive!


This Independence Day, Fire Mountain Gems and Beads invites jewelry-makers, artists and creative entrepreneurs to be part of a historic national celebration. As the United States marks its 250th anniversary, America250 is bringing communities together through America's Block Party, a nationwide event taking place July 3 and 4 that combines local celebrations with opportunities to give back.

Design Idea P A 4 P - Single-strand suncatcher has red, white and blue bicone beads, a variety of red, white and blue glass and resin beads with an American flag theme, and a clear crystal teardrop on the bottom. The findings are silvery.

Design Idea M G 2 9 - Three-necklace set. The shortest has a U S A charm in red, white and blue. The medium-length necklace has an awareness ribbon charm with red and white stripes on one half and white stars on a blue background on the other half. The longest necklace has a charm of a peace symbol with an American flag motif in the background.

America's Block Party is designed to connect neighbors through live music, community gatherings and shared experiences. This year's celebration also introduces Giving 4th, an initiative with the goal of making Independence Day the largest single day of charitable giving in U.S. history. Participants are encouraged to support causes that matter to them through donations, volunteer service and other acts of generosity.

Design Idea N D 4 5 - Necklace of large golden chain has five polymer clay components shaped like red, white and blue American flag-themed bunting. The bunting components have blue agate gemstone beads between them. The center of each half-circle of bunting has a red bamboo coral faceted round bead in it. Earrings have a triangle of golden chain suspending a polymer clay bunting component matching those in the necklace. These bunting components also have a red bamboo coral bead in the center. A blue agate beads hangs in the center of the chain triangle.

Design Idea F B 0 V - Necklace has bright blue Czech pressed glass star beads. Between every other star bead is a trio of beads: small red dagger, large white dagger, small red dagger. Between the other star beads is a small white bead. Earrings have a teardrop-shaped loop of beading wire with the same bead trio at the bottom, with small round blue beads on either side. A blue star bead hangs in the center of the teardrop. Findings are silvery. On the left of the image is a closeup of the beads in the necklace.

Jewelry-makers have a unique opportunity to make a difference. Handmade jewelry can support charity auctions, fundraising events and community organizations, while helping raise awareness for meaningful causes. Artists and small businesses may choose to donate finished pieces, contribute a portion of sales to a favorite nonprofit or organize creative activities as part of a neighborhood celebration. Even small acts of generosity can help strengthen the communities that inspire creativity.

Design Idea R F 2 C - Silvery hoop earrings have 9 glass druk beads on each, first three red, then three white and finally three blue. The druk beads have silvery beaded rondelle beads between them.

Design Idea R F 2 A - Necklace of silvery chain has an American flag-themed pendant in red, silver and blue. Silvery leverback earrings have two charms each. Both have an American flag. One has a red, white and blue “U S A” charm and the other has a red and blue heart charm.

The beads are separated by silvery bead caps. A silvery floating locket contains tiny red, white and blue bicone beads and an American flag charm. Silvery stud earrings have a drop with a small white crystal bead on the top, a medium-sized red crystal bead, in the middle and a larger blue crystal bead on the bottom.

Each drop has a silvery bead at the top and the bottom and five colored beads in the center: red, white and blue on separate strands. At the bottom of each drop is a small silvery hammered open round drop.

Design Idea N F 2 H - Necklace has five round red beads on the left, four white round beads and an American flag charm in the center and five round blue beads on the right. A length of slim silvery beads separate the color sections. Stud earrings each have three lengths of silvery chain, each with a shiny round bead at the bottom: red, white and blue.

Design Idea M B 4 B - Stretch bracelet has alternating sections of four round shiny gemstone beads. Each of the six sections is a different color: red, white and blue. The sections are separated by slim gold-finished heishi beads.
