How to Create the Dutch Spiral Stitch


Instructions


Note: The illustrations use #8 seed beads for colors A and B and #11 seed beads for colors C and D.

Step 1

Cut an arm-length of thread and add a beading needle, leaving a tail.

Step 2

Pick up the following seed beads:


  • A
  • B
  • A
  • C
  • D

Pass through all the beads again and pull the thread tight to create a circle. Secure with a surgeon’s knot.

Step 3

Pass through the first A, pick up an A then pass through the adjacent B.

Step 4

Pick up a B then pass through the adjacent A.

Step 5

Pick up an A then pass through the adjacent C.

Step 6

Pick up a C and two D then pass through the first A added in this row.

Step 7

Repeat Steps 3 - 6, increasing the number of Ds with each row, until the spiral reaches the desired diameter.

Step 8

Continue to repeat Steps 3 - 6, using the same number of Ds in each row, until the spiral is nearing the desired length.

Step 9

Continue to repeat Steps 3 - 6, decreasing the number of Ds in each row, until the row has tapered down to one D.

Step 10

Pass through the last row again then weave through several adjacent beads to secure the thread. For additional security, add a small knot.
