Diana Rose Chua

Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?

I live in the Philippines.

What inspires you as a designer-artist?

I am inspired by art deco design and nature.

What medium do you work with mostly?

I work with wire, crystals, beads and stones.

Why did you become enchanted with this style of jewelry-making?

When I was 12 years old, my mom gave me crystals. I was mesmerized by how shiny they were and I loved the way the light bounced off the crystals.

From there, I started learning on my own how to make wire art. I didn't have jewelry-making tools back then, so I used the tip of a pen to make loops and small garden wire cutters and pliers. Everything I made was lopsided and cracked. But I loved it, I thought I was making the most beautiful thing in the world.

Over the years, my design aesthetic changed and I upgraded my tools and materials. One thing that has not changed: I still love crystals and I still love wire art.

Where and how do you sell your jewelry?

I sell commissioned pieces to friends and family. I post these works on my Instagram page.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?

Garden Parrot

What inspired this design?

This piece was inspired by our pet bird. I wanted the piece to be colorful like a flower garden with a perched bird blending into the beauty of its surroundings.
