Iridescent mussel shell is alive with color and full of style. Versatile fringe belt looks great worn over a long shirt or dress. Instructions listed are for a 36-inch belt with ties. The shell will cover the 36 inches and the extra cord is for the ties.
Cut one length of cotton cord, four yards long. Tie one over-hand knot approximately 24 inches from one end.
Tie another over-hand knot, one-quarter inch from the first knot. Continue tying the knots every quarter-inch until you have 36 inches of knots. There should be a total of 73 knots with 72 spaces between each knot.
Using jumprings, attach a 15mm two-hole teal disc to a 15mm two-hole green disc, then attach a 15mm two-hole lime disc to the 15mm green disc. Add a teal one-hole 20mm disc to the 15mm lime disc. Repeat this step 15 more times for a total of 16 green sets.
Repeat Step 3 using the light blue, medium blue and dark blue two-hole, 15mm discs and a one-hole, 20mm dark blue disc for a total of 16 blue sets.
Repeat Step 3 again using the pink, dark pink and red two-hole, 15mm discs and a one-hole, 20mm red disc for a total of 16 red sets.
Repeat Step 3 a third time using the purple, fuchsia and dark purple two-hole, 15mm discs and a one-hole, 20mm purple disc for a total of 16 purple sets.
Repeat Step 3 one last time using the gold, orange and brown two-hole, 15mm discs and a one-hole, 20mm brown disc for a total of eight brown sets.
Using jumprings, attach the first two-hole disc of one green set to the first space between the first two knots on the cord.
Repeat, placing sets in the following order: blue, red, purple, brown, purple, red, blue, green.
Repeat Step 8 seven more times.
Cut one piece of cord 48 inches long and fold in half. Tie two overhand knots in the center of the folded cord, approximately one-quarter inch apart. Line up the folded cord and the main cord with the knots so they are side by side. Tie an over-hand knot on the main cord, so the knot lands in the space between the two knots on the folded cord. This will give you three lengths of cord for the ties.
Attach jumprings to two of each color of the 20mm one-holed discs (two red, two pink, two purple, etc.)
Pass one cord end through one jumpring on one of the red and one of the pink discs from Step 11. Slide them up the cord away from the end. Tie one overhand knot on the end of the cord and tighten.
Slide the two discs back down toward the knot and tie an overhand knot around both jumprings, securing the two discs in place.
Repeat Steps 12 and 13 for the purple and fuchsia discs from Step 11.
Repeat Step 14 using the lime and green discs on the other two cords of this end of the belt.
Repeat Steps 12 - 15 for the other end of the belt.
