Instructions
A striking shell donut provides the centerpiece for this simple but elegant necklace. Suede lacing gives it a soft, natural drape, and the possibilities for the "dangles" are endless. Complete these instructions to get you there!
Step 1
String 1 crystal on 1 headpin. Make a wrapped loop to secure the bead. Repeat to make 4 crystal dangles in all.
Step 2
String 1 daisy spacer and the moonstone nugget on 1 headpin. Make a wrapped loop to secure the beads. Set aside.
Step 3
String 1 daisy spacer, the round blades bead and 1 daisy spacer on 1 headpin. Make a wrapped loop to secure the beads. Set aside.
Step 4
Open 1 jump ring. Attach 1 crystal dangle and the moonstone nugget dangle. Close the jump ring and set aside.
Step 5
Open 1 jump ring. Attach 1 crystal dangle and the round blades bead dangle. Close the jump ring and set aside.
Step 6
Open 1 jump ring. Attach 1 crystal dangle and the bell charm. Close the jump ring and set aside.
Step 7
Open 1 jump ring. Attach 1 crystal dangle and the cross charm. Close the jump ring and set aside.
Step 8
Cut two 12-inch lengths of suede lacing. Pair the 2 lengths in half and arrange them so that all of the ends are staggered.
Secure the lacing to the donut using a lark's head knot (see illustration). There should be 4 suede fringe legs hanging from the outside of the donut.
The lark's head knot is a simple and useful knot for attaching objects like donuts to necklace cords. The lark's head knot is a slip knot. Therefore, the tighter you pull, the tighter it becomes.
Step 9
String 1 silver tube onto 1 fringe leg.
Note: It's easiest to string beads onto the lacing if you cut the end at a sharp angle. String 1 of the jump ring combinations and slide it to about 1/2 inch from the end of the suede. Fold the suede up over the jump ring.
While holding the jump ring and suede in place, slide the silver tube down the lacing toward the jump ring so it covers both thicknesses of the suede. Use the pliers to gently squeeze the tube to secure the lacing.
Step 10
Repeat Step 9 until you've added all the jump ring combinations.
Step 11
Fold the remaining lacing in half and attach it to the other side of the shell donut using a lark's head knot.
Pair the lacing's ends and string 1 silver tube. Slide it down the lacing to meet the donut.
Step 12
Determine the length you'd like your final necklace to be. Pair the ends of the lacing and tie an overhand knot at that length. Trim the ends if necessary.
