- Cord, Hemptique®, polished hemp, dark brown, 1mm diameter, 20-pound test
- Cup, gold-plated brass, 7x3mm with peg
- Focal, laminated wood and paper, blue / orange / multicolored, (2) 36x24mm and (1) 56x36mm double-sided butterfly wing
- Hair stick, bone (natural), white, 4-1/2 inches with hand-carved end-drilled twist, Mohs hardness 2-1/2
- Adhesive, Apoxie® Sculpt, epoxy and polymer resin, black
- Adhesive, epoxy, Devcon® 2 Ton® Clear Epoxy, 30-minute, 2-part
Instructions
Step 1
Place a hair stick into a flat piece of scrap clay so that the drilled end is facing straight up. Stick a cup finding into the hair stick. Use a scoop to apply and shape Apoxie® Sculpt over the cup and attach a butterfly wing focal.
Repeat with a second hair stick. Allow both hair sticks to cure for 24 hours. If needed, use alcohol to smooth out the Apoxie.
Step 2
Cut two 4-foot lengths of cord.
Step 3
Make a loop on one end of the cord. Place the loop parallel to the end of the cord you are wrapping then hold it in place with your non-dominate thumb.
Wrap the loose end of the binding cord around the hair stick and butterfly wing several times. Continue to wrap as seen in the image, being careful not to completely cover the loop.
When you are satisfied with the wrap, thread the binding cord back through the loop and pull both ends tight to secure. Trim excess thread from the binding cord. Use Devcon® 5 Minute® Epoxy to secure both ends of the cord.
Repeat on the other hair stick.
