Instructions
Clean a 28mm gold-finished open round focal with rubbing alcohol and allow to dry.
Cut a 2-inch length of 2-inch-wide PET blue resin tape and set it on a flat, smooth work surface, sticky side up. Set the focal with one open side in the center of the tape and press down firmly to ensure full contact all the way around. Resin will leak through even the smallest space.
Tip: Watch “6 Rookie Mistakes to Avoid When Using Resin” if you’re a beginner or need a refresher on using resin.
Mix just enough EnviroTex Lite® clear 2-part resin to cover the bottom of the focal. Do not fill the focal—just lightly cover the bottom. Use a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol to clean up any resin on the top or outside of the setting.
Wearing safety glasses, quickly run either the flame of a long lighter, micro torch or heat gun over the surface of the resin to dispel any bubbles. If using a micro torch, move quickly to avoid scorching the piece.
Let the resin cure for a full 24 hours. Then remove the tape.
Mix just enough EnviroTex Lite clear 2-part resin to cover the cured resin. Using a pipette, add a very light coat of resin over the cured resin, one drop at a time. Using tweezers, add grandidierite undrilled mini-inlay chips one at a time in your desired pattern, on top of the uncured resin. Keep the top of each chip below the rim of the setting. If some chips do not touch the resin, add a small drop of resin over them but do this sparingly. If there is too much resin, the chips will float out of place. Use a cotton swab and alcohol to clean up any resin on the top or outside of the setting.
Repeat Step 4 to cure the new layer of resin.
