Instructions

Necklace Instructions

Step 1

Cut a 6-foot length of Berkley® FireLine® thread.

Thread a beading needle, leaving a tail.

Russian Spiral Stitch

Step 2

Pick up three groups of one color A seed bead and two color B seed beads. Move the seed beads to the end of the thread, leaving a 6-inch tail.

Notes:

  • Any combination of two bead sizes can be used to create this spiral, so long as the larger bead is color A
  • The diameter of the finished weave can be altered by starting with more groups of seed beads on the first row
Step 3

Pass through all the seed beads again, pull tight to create a circle then create a knot.

Step 4

Pass through the next color A and color B, exiting between two color Bs.

Step 5

Pick up one A seed bead and one B seed bead. Skip over the next two seed beads of the first row and pass through the third (a color B).

Repeat.

Step 6

Repeat Step 5, pulling tightly after each stitch, until the Russian spiral reaches the desired length.

The weave will begin to cup and then become a tube as length is added.

Step 7

Pass the thread through the end beads and an eye pin several times to secure the eye pin to the end of the necklace, like sewing a button. Pass onto the eye pin a heishi bead, a cord end and a 3mm round bead. Create a wrapped loop on the end of the eye pin.

Add a beading needle to the tail from Step 2 then repeat to secure the thread.

Tip: Not all cord ends are created equal. Pick one with a small enough hole that the 3mm round bead doesn't fall through.

Step 8
Cabochon with seed bead border

Create a circle of alternating orange and bronze #11 seed beads slightly larger than the circumference of the cabochon. It must be an even number of seed beads. For this cabochon, 78 seed beads were used. Tie the seed beads into a circle. This will be rows one and two of a peyote pattern.

Step 9

Create a tubular peyote stitch with a row of bronze #11 seed beads above orange #11 seed beads.

Tip: View ''How to make a Tubular Peyote Stitch'' for how-to video and illustrated instructions.

Step 10

Add two rows of bronze #15 seed beads. Do not make this too tight. Frequently check the fit over the cabochon. The smaller beads will start to cinch in the design.

Add one row of orange #15 seed beads and two rows of gold #15 seed beads.

Step 11
Seed bead hoop and cabochon

Add one more row of gold #15 seed beads but skip every other "up" bead. Don't worry about the thread showing.

Step 12

Skittle around to the back side of the setting. Add one row of orange #11 seed beads and two rows of bronze #11 seed beads.

Note: "Skittle" refers to weaving thread through adjacent seed beads to secure the thread.

Step 13

Add two rows of bronze #15 seed beads. This will start cinching in the pattern, so position the cabochon in place during this step.

Add two rows of orange #15 seed beads.

Step 14
Cabochon set in seed beads

Add two rows of gold #15 seed beads.

Add one more row of gold #15 seed beads but skip every other "up" bead.

Step 15
Needle adding to Cabochon set in seed beads

Skittle to the edge of the mount and begin a peyote stitched bail working directly off the first row of orange #11 seed beads that were stitched.

Step 16

Stitch a peyote strip approximately 1-1/2 inches long with four beads per row--one orange #11, two bronze #11 and one orange #11. It needs to be long enough to wrap around the necklace and allow the necklace to slide freely through it.

Confirm that the last row of beads stitched will fit into the orange row opposite the row you started from on the cabochon. It may be necessary to add an additional row to make everything line up properly.

Step 17
Putting the needle through the beads where the circle connects to the strip

Wrap the bail around the necklace and stitch onto the orange seed beads adjacent to the row where the bail strip was started.

Step 18

Create the picot edge on the bail by going through an edge bead, adding three gold #15 seed beads then going through the adjacent edge bead.

Continue until the entire side is stitched, skittle across and repeat on the other side.

Step 19
Image

Skittle approximately one third of the way around the cabochon and start creating the fringe. Go through an orange #11 seed bead from the second row of orange #11 seed beads.

Add the first strand of fringe by picking up a 3mm bicone, a bronze #15 seed bead and a gold #15 seed bead. Pass back through all but the last bead then through the orange #11 seed bead adjacent to the orange #11 seed bead where the strand was started.

Repeat to add strands of fringe as desired, using the image above as reference. Once complete, skittle through the cabochon setting and trim any excess thread.

Step 20

Attach half of a toggle clasp to the loop at the end of the necklace with two jump rings. Repeat on the other end to complete the necklace.

Earring Instructions

  • One orange #8 seed bead
  • One 3mm bicone
  • One gold #15 seed bead

  • One bronze #11 seed bead

Create a simple loop.

Step 2

Pass the following onto an eye pin:

  • One bronze #11 seed bead
  • One orange #8 seed bead
  • One 6mm rose quartz round

Step 3

Attach the head pin to the eye pin. Attach the eye pin and an earstud with a jump ring. Attach an earnut.
