Instructions

Step 1

Add a beading needle to a 5-foot length of FireLine® thread. Leaving an 18-inch tail, add a stop bead. Do not use this bead while stitching the pattern.

Step 2

To begin Rows 1 and 2, pick up the following beads and bring them to the stop bead.

  • Three white
  • Three linen
  • Three grey
  • Three grey-blue
  • 5 black
  • Three grey-blue
  • Three grey
  • Three linen
  • Three white
Step 3

Pick up the first bead of Row 3 then pass back through the second to last bead from the initial pick up.

Pick up the next bead of Row 3, skip a bead from the initial pick up then pass back through the next. Repeat to add all the beads of Row 3.

Step 4
Beading pattern

Pass back through the bead directly below the last bead added, the last bead of Row 2 and the next bead of Row 1.

Pass through the second-to-last bead of Row 3 and the last beads of Rows 2 and 1. Pass back through the last bead added to Row 3.

Step 5

Stitch the next two rows of the pattern.

Step 6

Repeat Steps 4 and 5 to create a strip of peyote stitch approximately 4 1/2 inches long.

Step 7

After completing the last row, pass through various beads to exit between the white and linen of the last row.

Step 8

Using even count peyote stitch, add one linen and two grey. Add another row of one linen and two grey. Repeat to create a beaded strip approximately 1 1/2 inches long.

Step 9
Looping beaded strip

Loop the end of the beaded strip back to the first row of itself. Sew through the last row and first row of the loop and pull tight to close.

Step 10

Continue to weave through beads to exit between the linen and grey on the opposite side. Repeat Steps 8 and 9 to create the second loop.

Weave through the focal to secure the thread, exiting at an edge, then trim.

Step 11

Add a beading needle to an arm-length of FireLine and add a stop bead.

Step 12

Pick up five black. Using the odd count peyote stitch, create a beaded strip long enough to snugly wrap from the beaded focal around the center of the naja piece.

Step 13
Looping beaded strip

Sew the last row of the black beaded strip just above the middle of the beaded focal, in the center black stripe.

Bring the other end of the beaded strip around to form a loop and secure the second end snugly against the first. Weave through various beads to secure the thread, then trim.

Insert the naja piece into the loop, using adhesive if needed for additional security.

Step 14

Remove the stop bead and add a beading needle to the tail thread.

Step 15

Pass back through the bead directly under the bead the thread is exiting, then the bead below and in.

Pass through the bead directly over the last, then exit the first bead. Pass back through the last bead picked up.

Add a row of the pattern, skipping the first and last beads to decrease.

Repeat until the beading has tapered to a one-bead row.

Step 16

Weave through the beading to secure the thread, then trim.

Tubular Filled Netting

Step 17
Circled beads

Leaving a 6-inch tail, pick up three pairs of a carnelian round and a #15 white seed bead. Pass through all six beads again and pull tight to create a circle. Tie a surgeon’s knot to secure. Pass through the next white bead in the circle.

Step 18

Pick up four #15 black seed beads, one white and four black. Pass through the next white of the first row.

Repeat twice.

Step 19
Seed bead row

To step up to the next row, pass through the first four black and one white added in this row.

Step 20
Adding Carnelian row

Pick up a carnelian then pass through the next white of the previous row.

Repeat twice.

Step 21

Repeat Steps 18 - 20 until the rope is the desired length. Do not trim the thread.

Assembly

Step 22

Cut a 3- to 4-inch length of wire and add a wrapped loop to one end.

Step 23
Finishing row

Pass the needle through all the whites of the last row and the wrapped loop. Repeat twice then tie a small knot and trim the thread.

Step 24

String a cone and a 2.5mm round onto the wire then create a wrapped loop.

Repeat on the opposite end of the necklace.

Step 25

Use jump rings to add the clasp to the ends of the necklace.
