Spider Earrings with Preciosa Rocaille Seed Beads and Bugle Beads

Design Idea R K 2 S - Earrings resemble black spiders, with larger beads for the body and head and seed beads and bugle beads for legs.

Instructions

Step 1

Cut off 20 inches of wire and bend it in half. String a black oval bead and a candy rose bead onto the wire through both holes.

Step 2

Bend an 8-prong snowflake ornament frame so that four prongs are on one side and four on the other, like spider legs. Attach the candy rose bead to the center of the frame by weaving the wire between the spider's "legs.”

Step 3

Twist the ends of the wire two times. String the skull bead onto both wires. Then twist the ends of the wire about eight times and make a loop in the end. Fold the ends of the wire to the back of the spider.

Wire ends are twisted together in two revolutions.

Large flat black skull bead is threaded onto both wires, narrow side first.

Wires are twisted together eight times at the opposite side of the skull bead.

Twisted wires have been formed into a loop.

Wire ends that extend past the simple loop are folded to the back of the "spider" and aligned with its body.

Step 4

Wind the remainder of the wire around the "legs.” Then twist the ends and cut off any excess wire.

Ends of wire are secured by winding them around the legs on the underside of the spider.

Step 5

Start making the legs as follows: String the beads and seed beads onto the individual pieces of wire in this order:

Two #10 black rocaille seed beads
One 1/2 inch black bugle bead
One #10 black rocaille seed bead
One #8 black rocaille seed bead
One #6 soft copper rocaille seed bead
One #8 black rocaille seed bead
One #10 black rocaille seed bead
One 1/2 inch black bugle bead
One #8 black rocaille seed bead
Two #10 black rocaille seed beads

Use the clip to secure the beads on the wire.

String the beads and seed beads onto the second leg in the same way. Then make a simple loop on the end of each wire using round-nose pliers.

Back legs are finished with simple loops.

Step 6

Make the other four legs differently: string shorter bugles at the end as follows: String the beads and seed beads onto the individual wires in the following order:

Two #10 black rocaille seed beads
One 1/2 inch black bugle bead
One #10 black rocaille seed bead
One #8 black rocaille seed bead
One #6 soft copper rocaille seed bead
One #8 black rocaille seed bead
One #10 black rocaille seed bead
One black bugle bead slightly shorter than 1/2 inch
One #8 black rocaille seed bead
Two #10 black rocaille seed beads

Finish the legs as you did in Step 5.

Step 7

Use the silver wire to connect the loops on the ends of the back legs. Then attach the loops to an earring finding.

Earring finding is attached to both back legs, which are wired together.

Step 8

Repeat Steps 1 – 7 for the second earring.
