I have a few friends who refer quite a bit of business to me. I would like to show them I appreciate their referrals, but I'm not sure what would be appropriate. Would a thank you card be enough?
For many jewelry makers (and business people in general), referral sources can be their best source of new customers. In fact, there are probably two or three key people who send many new customers your way. Here are some ideas: First, you can always send a thank you card to a referral source, and do that right after acquiring the new customer. Second, if the referral source consistently sends you new business, you might offer them a special gift, either from your existing line or create something just for them. Finally, I send all good referral sources a box of candy for the winter holidays. This shows them, again, that their referrals are appreciated.
