History
Not a lot is known about the history of bronzite, most likely due to its abundance throughout history. Bronzite is found all over the world and can appear mundane when not polished. Bronzite is a truly beautiful stone that can display chatoyancy and bright golden flecks. The Romans used powdered bronzite as a protector against confusion and mental illness. Bronzite was also utilized in medieval times to fortify the nerves.
Metaphysical Properties
According to metaphysical beliefs, bronzite is used to ground us. It promotes clarity and certainty of thinking and actions. These are not brash actions though, as bronzite has been called the "stone of courtesy" since it can instill politeness. Bronzite jewelry has been worn to help alleviate nervous energy that is generated when we are placed in new situations. Those who use stones for metaphysical practices have been known to use bronzite for increasing self-esteem, promoting decision making, dispelling negativity and enhancing creativity. Bronzite is a versatile stone that is said to resonate with most chakras, though it is most closely tied to the sacral and base chakras. Though not a birthstone, bronzite has come to be associated with the astrological Zodiac sign of Leo.
Geological Properties
Bronzite belongs to the mineral group known as pyroxene, and so is a silicate compound of magnesium. An iron-bearing variety of enstatite, bronzite has a metallic luster when polished. The crystal system of bronzite is orthorhombic, meaning its crystal system has three unequal axes at right angles. This bronze-colored gemstone is found all over the world, including USA, Austria, England, South Africa, India, Norway and Greenland. Bronzite can be found in igneous rocks and has been discovered in meteorites.

Proper Care of Bronzite
Bronzite is not a soft stone, but it can be susceptible to cleavage if struck hard enough and in the right spot. It's best to remove bronzite jewelry before engaging in physical sports or activities that could cause the stone to be hit. Clean bronzite gemstones and jewelry with a soft cloth and soapy water. It is not recommended to use harsh cleaning agents or methods such as boiling and steaming to clean bronzite. Remove bronzite jewelry before using bleach or other chemicals. Store bronzite jewelry away from harder materials to avoid creating blemishes on the lustrous surface.

Designing with Bronzite
Bronzite is beautiful generally dark gemstone with a high metallic luster, making it ideal for use in both men's and women's jewelry. Bronzite, due to its shimmering quality, is ideal for pairing alongside other metallic-looking stones such as pyrite. If designing with bronzite that contains a decent amount of green that you would like to draw out, pair the stone with other dark green stones. With an earthy brown base, bronzite is a favorite for use in designs inspired by Earth and nature, including those that incorporate bone, wood or horn beads.
