Iolite Bracelet and Earrings
Cordier was a French mineralogist who travelled the world and collected nearly 200,000 mineral samples as he went. He wrote The Collections of Geology and his work on the origins of limestones and dolomites made his reputation. He was the first to describe a lovely blue-violet stone, which he found would change color when viewed from the side. He called it "Cordierite." Others called it "water sapphire." But the Greek scholars saw the color "ios" (violet) and named it "iolite."
