Triple-Strand Necklace with Lemon Quartz, Peridot and Amethyst Gemstone Beads

Thanks to the brilliance of high-quality gemstones, this necklace is beautiful as well as versatile. Pair the gemstone strands with rubber cord and wear it with a casual outfit. Or, for an elegant occasion, hang the gemstone strands from a fine sterling silver chain. After you've created this design, there should be enough gemstones left over to make other accessories to match your convertible necklace, such as a bracelet and earrings.

STEP 1
Cut a 7-inch length of 0.012-inch, 49 strand Accu-Flex® professional-quality beading wire. String one crimp bead and the loop of one half of the spiral clasp. Pass the wire back through the crimp bead; snug the wire so there is very little gap between the clasp and the crimp bead and a short tail of beading wire. Crimp the crimp bead with chain-nose pliers, checking to make sure the wire is secure. Trim any excess wire.
STEP 2
String in the following order onto the Accu-Flex beading wire:
  • One 3x2mm oval spacer bead
  • One amethyst rice bead
  • One peridot flat round bead
  • One citrine oval bead
  • One peridot flat round bead
  • One amethyst rice bead
  • One peridot flat round bead
  • And one citrine oval bead
Repeat the pattern in reverse to mirror the first half of strung beads, ending with a crimp bead. Pass the Accu-Flex beading wire through the loop on the other half of the clasp then back through the crimp bead. Pull the Accu-Flex beading wire tightly to align all the beads in the strand, allowing enough slack so the beads can move and the strand has flexibility. Secure the wire to the clasp by crimping the crimp bead with chain-nose pliers.
STEP 3
Now cut a 9-inch length of Accu-Flex beading wire. String one crimp bead and the loop on one half of the spiral clasp, below the first strand. Pass the wire back through the crimp bead then secure the wire to the clasp as you did in Step 1.
STEP 4
String a 3x2mm oval spacer bead onto the second strand of Accu-Flex beading wire, then begin adding the gemstone beads in the following pattern, placing one 3x2mm oval spacer bead between each gemstone bead: two peridot flat round beads, one amethyst rice bead … ending with a 3x2mm oval spacer bead and a crimp bead. Pull the Accu-Flex beading wire tightly to align all the beads in the strand, allowing enough slack so the beads can move and the strand has flexibility. Secure the wire to the clasp as you did in Step 2; trim any excess wire.
STEP 5
Cut an 11-inch length of Accu-Flex beading wire. Now string one crimp bead and the loop on one half of the spiral clasp, below the second strand. Secure the wire to the clasp as you did in Step 1.
STEP 6
String a 3x2mm drum bead, a 3x3mm tube bead and a 3x2mm drum bead onto the third strand of Accu-Flex beading wire, then begin adding the gemstones in the pattern to follow, placing a 3x2mm drum bead, a 3x3mm tube bead and a 3x2mm drum bead between each gemstone bead: one peridot flat round, one citrine briolette, one peridot flat round ... ending with a 3x2mm drum bead, a 3x3mm tube bead, a 3x2mm drum bead and a crimp bead. Pass the wire through the loop on the other half of the spiral clasp, below the second strand of beads and then back through the crimp bead. Pull the Accu-Flex tightly to align all the beads in the strand, allowing enough slack so the beads can move and the strand has flexibility, then secure the strand to the clasp by crimping the crimp bead, trim any excess wire. Set the gemstone piece aside.
STEP 7
Slip a crimp bead with loop onto one end of the rubber cord. Move the rubber cord to the inside end of the crimp bead so you're sure it's inserted all the way in but not so much that the rubber cording sticks out past the opening; compress the center section of the crimp bead. Repeat from the other side of the crimp bead to secure the crimp bead in place. Pull on the crimp bead to make sure it is secure, compress the center section again if necessary.
STEP 8
Repeat Step 7 on the other end of the rubber cord.
STEP 9
Link the loops of the rubber cord onto both hooks of the spiral clasp to complete your casual necklace.

For an elegant look:

STEP 10
Cut the entire length of chain in half.
STEP 11
Open one jumpring and attach it to the last link of both lengths of chain; close the jumpring.
STEP 12
Repeat Step 11 to the other end of both lengths of chain.
STEP 13
Remove the rubber cord from your casual necklace. Replace it with the elegant chain by linking the jumprings onto both hooks of the spiral clasp.
