Single-Strand Necklace and Earring Set with Silver-Plated Brass Beads, Czech Fire-Polished Glass Beads and Silkon® Nylon Thread

Necklace

STEP 1
Using a pair of scissors, cut four 46-inch and two 10-inch lengths of green silkon thread.
STEP 2
Assemble four strands of 46-inch green silkon thread (the two outside strands will be used as the knotting strands and the two inside strands will be used as the base strands).
STEP 3
Line up the ends so they are flush. Pass 1-1/2 inches through the loop on the hook portion of the clasp then fold the ends back against the longer section of the strands. Place the end of one of the 10-inch lengths of green silkon thread next to the clasp against the folded lengths of thread. Tightly wrap the 10-inch length of thread around the folded lengths of thread for 1/4 inch from the clasp. Tie the end of the 10-inch length of thread around the folded threads at the bottom of the wrap using a half hitch knot.

Do not cut the short ends of the 4 strands of thread. These will be used to make tassels later.

Pin or tape the clasp to your work station to make it easier to form your knots evenly.
STEP 4
Using the two outside strands, make a square knot over the two inside strands.

The basic pattern is:
  • Strand 1 over the base
  • Strand 2 over strand 1
  • Strand 2 under the base
  • Strand 2 through the loop
  • Strand 2 over base
  • Strand 1 over strand 2
  • Strand 1 under the base
  • Strand 1 through the loop
Tip: You must alternate starting with strand 1 and strand 2 to get a flat pattern. If you start consistently with the same strand the pattern will twist--a great alternative look.

Continue making alternating square knots for 1-inch.
STEP 5
String one 4x3x3mm cube silver-plated bead onto the two left strands (left knotting strand and the left base strand). Make four square knots, then string one 8x3mm tube silver-plated bead onto the two right strands.
STEP 6
Continue to make four square knots then string one of the following beads on the named strand:
  • 4x3x3mm cube silver-plated bead onto the two left strands
  • 4mm round light red fire-polished bead to the two right strands
  • 4x3x3mm cube silver-plated bead onto the two left strands
  • 5x5mm flat square silver-plated bead to the two right strands
  • 6mm round light red fire-polished bead onto the two left strands
  • 5x5mm cube silver-plated bead to the two right strands
  • 8x3mm tube silver-plated bead onto the two left strands
  • 6mm round light red fire-polished bead to the two right strands
  • 4x3x3mm cube silver-plated bead onto the two left strands
  • 5x5mm cube silver-plated bead to the two right strands
  • 6mm round light red fire-polished bead onto the two left strands
  • 8x3mm tube silver-plated bead to the two right strands
  • 5x5mm flat square silver-plated bead onto the two left strands
  • 6mm round emerald fire-polished bead to the two right strands
  • 5x5mm cube silver-plated bead onto the two left strands
  • 6x4mm oval silver-plated bead to the two right strands
  • 6mm round light red fire-polished bead onto the two left strands
  • 4x3x3mm cube silver-plated bead to the two right strands
  • 8x3mm tube silver-plated bead onto the two left strands
  • 6mm round light red fire-polished bead to the two right strands
  • 5x5mm cube silver-plated bead onto the two left strands
  • 5x5mm flat square silver-plated bead to the two right strands
  • 6mm round light red fire-polished bead onto the two left strands
  • 8x3mm tube silver-plated bead to the two right strands
  • 4x3x3mm cube silver-plated bead to the two right strands
STEP 7
Make four square knots, then string one 8x3mm tube silver-plated bead onto the two left strands. Make four square knots.
STEP 8
Repeat Step 6, backwards, to create the second half of the strand in a mirror image of the first half of the strand.
STEP 9
After the last bead added in Step 8, continue making alternating square knots for 1-inch.
STEP 10
Repeat Step 3, passing the ends of the four strands through the loop on the eye portion of the clasp and securing and finishing the strands using the second 10-inch length of thread.
STEP 11
String onto one of the left-over lengths of Silkon, one 3mm light red fire-polished bead. Tie an overhand knot under the bead to hold it in place. Repeat to attach the remaining 3mm light red fire-polished beads to each of the remaining lengths of Silkon, working on both ends of the necklace. Trim the excess thread to approximately 3/4 inch to 1-1/4 inches in length.

Earrings

STEP 1
Place one 4mm round light red fire-polished bead onto a silver-plated eyepin. Using a pair of chain-nose pliers, round-nose pliers and flush-cutters, form a simple loop on the straight end of the wire creating a 4mm round light red fire-polished beading link. Repeat to create two 4mm round light red fire-polished bead links.
STEP 2
Using a pair of chain-nose pliers and flat-nose pliers, open the loop on one 4mm round light red fire-polished beading links. Pass the loop through the loop on one beading hoop. Close the loop.
STEP 3
String onto the open wire of the beading hoop one of each of the following:
  • 3mm round light red fire-polished bead
  • 4x3mm tube silver-plated bead
  • 4mm round light red fire-polished bead
  • 4x3x3mm cube silver-plated bead
  • 6mm round emerald fire-polished bead
  • 5x5mm cube silver-plated bead to the two right strands
  • 6mm round light red fire-polished bead
  • 5x5mm cube silver-plated bead to the two right strands
  • 6mm round emerald fire-polished bead
  • 4x3x3mm cube silver-plated bead
  • 4mm round light red fire-polished bead
  • 4x3mm tube silver-plated bead
  • 3mm round light red fire-polished bead
Pass the end of the wire through the wire bracket on the opposite side of the earring. Crimp the wire bracket to hold the wire securely in place.
STEP 4
Using scissors, cut four 3-1/3 inch lengths of green silkon thread.
STEP 5
Pass two lengths of thread through the loop in center of the beading hoop. Tie two overhand knots to hold the thread in place--creating a tassel of threads.
STEP 6
String onto one of the lengths of thread in the tassel, one 4x3x3mm square silver-plated bead and one 3mm round light red fire-polished bead. Tie an overhand knot under the beads to hold them in place. Repeat to attach beads to two more threads in the tassel.

String onto the last thread one 8x3mm tube silver-plated bead and one 3mm round light red fire-polished bead. Tie an overhand knot under the beads to hold them in place.
STEP 7
Repeat Steps 2 - 6 to create the second earring.
