Single-Strand Necklace with Antiqued Silver-Plated Brass Beads, Woven Vinyl Necklace and Twine

STEP 1
Using flush-cutting pliers, cut two 48-inch long strands of brown twine.
STEP 2
Measure down the taupe neckcords 2 inches. Match the ends of the two strands of brown twin. Wrap the two strands tightly around the neckcord for approximately 1/4 inch. Place a small amount of adhesive on the twine to hold them in place.
STEP 3
Assemble two strands of 48-inch twine (these will be used as the knotting strands) and neckcord (this will be used as the base strand), arranging the strands with the neckcord in between the long strands.

Pin or tape the cord end to your work station to make it easier to form your knots evenly.
STEP 4
Make a square knot using the two outside strands over the one center neckcord. The basic pattern is:
  • Strand 1 over the base
  • Strand 2 over strand 1
  • Strand 2 under the base
  • Strand 2 through the loop
  • Strand 2 over base
  • Strand 1 over strand 2
  • Strand 1 under the base
  • Strand 1 through the loop
You must alternate starting with strand 1 then strand 2 to get a flat pattern. If you start consistently with the same strand the pattern will twist.

For this project you will want to make loose knots, which will leave more of the neckcord showing.
STEP 5
Make three square knots, then string one 4mm corrugated round bead onto the left knotting strand and one 4mm corrugated round bead onto the right knotting strand.
STEP 6
Make two square knots, then string one 6mm corrugated round bead onto the left knotting strand and one 4mm corrugated round bead onto the right knotting strand.

Repeat four times for a total of five sets.
STEP 7
Make two square knots, then string one 8mm corrugated round bead onto the left knotting strand and one 6mm corrugated round bead onto the right knotting strand.

Repeat four times for a total of five sets.
STEP 8
Make two square knots, then string one 10mm corrugated round bead onto the left knotting strand and one 8mm corrugated round bead onto the right knotting strand.

Repeat eight times for a total of nine sets.
STEP 9
Repeat Steps 7 - 5 backwards.
STEP 10
Wrap the two strands of twine tightly around the neckcord for approximately 1/4 inch above the last three square knots. Place a small amount of adhesive on the hemp to hold them in place.
