Beading Links

Using flush-cutters, cut the following:
  • Eight 5-inch lengths of brass chain
  • Two 3-inch lengths of copper wire
Using a pair of chain-nose pliers, round-nose pliers and flush-cutters, form a wrapped loop on the straight end of a 3-inch length of wire. Thread onto the wire, a ladybug glass bead and finish the second end of the wire with a wrapped loop to secure the bead in place. Repeat to create a total of two ladybug beading links.
Using a 2-inch copper headpin, form a wrapped loop on the straight end of the headpin. Repeat to create a total of two wrapped loop headpins.

Kumihimo Cord

Using scissors cut four 18-inch lengths and two 8-inch lengths of red imitation silk cord and four 18-inch lengths of black imitation silk cord.
Match up one end each of four strands of red cord and four strands of black cord. Tie an overhand knot at the end of the cords. Place the knot through the center of the Kumihimo disc, and place the strands through the slots on the disk making sure that the red cords are opposite of each other. Weave the cord in a basic 8 cord pattern until the cord is 8 inches in length.
Place a wrapped-loop headpin into the end of the woven cord, with the wrapped loop to the outside.
Make a 3/4 inch loop with the 8-inch length of red cord and hold it with your thumb. Tightly wind the other end of the cord around your woven cord and loop toward the loop. Run the end of the cord through the loop and then pull the other end. The top end is enclosed in the coil. Tighten and place a small amount of G-S Hypo Fabric adhesive on the end before pulling it inside the woven cord to make sure it holds. Trim the ends of the cord.
Remove the knot on the opposite end of the cord and repeat Steps 6 and 7 to secure the cord.

Using a pair of chain-nose pliers and flat-nose pliers, open a 6mm jumpring. Pass it through the loop on the toggle ring portion of the clasp and the first link on four 5-inch lengths of chain. Close the jumpring.
Open a 6mm jumpring. Pass it through the last link on four 5-inch lengths of chain and the loop on a ladybug beading link. Close the jumpring.

Open a 6mm jumpring. Pass it through the opposite loop on the ladybug beading link and the loop on the headpin attached to the woven cord. Close the jumpring.
