Single-Strand Necklace and Earring Set with Glass Focal and Wirework

Necklace

STEP 1
Using flush-cutters, cut the following:
  • One 18-inch, two 11-inch, four 4-1/2 inch, and eleven 1-3/4 inch lengths of 4mm flat magenta aluminum wire
  • One 2-1/4 inch and sixteen 1-3/4 inch lengths of 4mm flat blue aluminum wire
STEP 2
Using a pair of chain-nose pliers, round-nose pliers and flush-cutters, form an 8mm simple loop on the straight end of the 2-1/4 inch length of 4mm flat blue aluminum wire. Curve the wire to the right around a pair of round-nose pliers creating a second loop 10mm around. Fold 1/8 inch of the end of the wire back flat against the wire to create a hook element. Use flush-cutters to cut the excess wire.
STEP 3
Form an 8mm loop on one end of a 1-3/4 inch length of 4mm flat magenta aluminum wire. Create an 8mm loop in the opposite direction, creating a figure eight.

Repeat to create eleven magenta figure eight links and sixteen blue figure eight links.
STEP 4
Form an 8mm loop on one end of a 4-1/2 inch length of 4mm flat magenta aluminum wire. Continue to form a 25mm S-shape curve to the wire, finishing the wire with an 8mm loop. Close the wire down to create a 4-loop link. Repeat to create four magenta 4-loop links.
STEP 5
Form an 8mm loop on one end of an 11-inch length of 4mm flat magenta aluminum wire. Continue to form a 12mm teardrop-shaped curve to the wire. Change direction and form a 15mm teardrop-shaped curve. Change direction and form a 30mm teardrop-shaped curve. Change direction and form a 25mm teardrop-shaped curve. Change direction and form a 20mm teardrop-shaped curve, finishing the wire with an 8mm loop. Close the wire down to create a 7-loop link. Repeat to create two magenta 7-loop links.
STEP 6
Place the end of an 18-inch length of 4mm flat magenta aluminum wire through the hole on a 50mm glass focal piece, forming a 20mm loop. Pass the wire back through the hole on the focal piece and wrap the wire down the back of the focal piece and around the bottom to the front. Using the chain-nose pliers and flat-nose pliers, form a loose Z-shape in the wire approximately 3/4-inch down the wire. Form the wire tightly around the body of the focal piece, for three wraps, creating loose Z-shapes in the wire across the front of the focal piece. Pass the wire back through the hole on the focal piece after the last wrap.

Bring the wire up to the 20mm loop at the top of the focal piece and wrap it one time around the loop and tuck the end of the wire inside the 20mm loop.
STEP 7
Open the loop on a magenta figure eight link. Pass the loop through the loop on the hoop portion of the clasp. Close the loop.
STEP 8
Continue to attach the links in the following order:
  • Four sets of one blue figure eight link and one magenta figure eight link
  • One blue figure eight link
  • Two sets of one magenta 4-loop link and one blue figure eight link
  • One magenta 7-loop link
  • One blue figure eight link
STEP 9
Continue to attach one magenta figure eight link and the loop on the focal piece.
STEP 10
Repeat Step 8 to create the second portion of the necklace attaching the last blue figure eight link to the magenta figure eight link from Step 9.

Earrings

STEP 1
Using flush-cutters, cut two 11-inch lengths of 4mm flat magenta aluminum wire.
STEP 2
Using a pair of chain-nose pliers, round-nose pliers and flush-cutters, form an 8mm simple loop on the straight end of an 11-inch length of wire.
STEP 3
Using a pair of chain-nose pliers and flat-nose pliers, open a 6mm jumpring. Pass it through the 30mm teardrop curve on the magenta 7-loop link. Close the jumpring.
STEP 4
Open a 4mm jumpring. Pass it through the 6mm jumpring and the loop on an earwire. Close the jumpring.
