Single-Strand Necklace and Earring Set with Kato Polyclay™, Celestial Crystal® Beads and Czech Crackle Glass Beads

Necklace

STEP 1
Cut one 21-inch length of Accu-Flex® professional-quality beading wire and four 3/4 inch lengths of 3mm cable chain.
STEP 2
Condition the white Kato Polyclay™ well by running the clay through a polymer clay roller until soft and pliable.

Repeat using the red and blue clay.

Tip: Use the ''Blending Colors in Polymer'' chart by Donna Kato for more information.
STEP 3
Roll a section of the white clay into a cylinder shape.
STEP 4
Roll another section of white clay through the pasta machine at the thickest setting into a rectangle sheet.

Repeat to create a sheet of red and blue clay.

Tip: The dimensions of the rectangle can vary depending upon the length and width you want to make the cane.
STEP 5
Take the white cylinder and put it at one end of the blue rectangle clay. Wrap the cylinder with the sheet of blue clay.

Cut any excess blue clay once there is one layer of blue clay covering the white cylinder.

Note: If you have cut too much blue clay, the clay can be pressed and manipulated to cover the white clay.
STEP 6
Wrap the now blue cylinder from Step 5 with the sheet of white clay. Remove any excess white clay.
STEP 7
Wrap the white cylinder from Step 6 with the sheet of red clay. Remove any excess red clay.

Tip:
  • Make sure to roll out any bubbles from the clay
  • The cane should have an inner white, blue, white and then red; however, more colors and shapes may be added for a different look

Reduction of the Cane

STEP 8
Starting in the center of the cane, use your fingers to press out toward the ends of the cane. This will help remove any excess bubbles and lengthen the cane.

Once this is done, roll the clay slowly, evening it out and removing any remaining air bubbles.

Cut off the uneven ends of the clay.

Tip: Reduction is best when the clay is soft.
STEP 9
Using a blade, slice one section of the cane approximately 3/16 inches thick.

Cut this section of cane into equal cane halves. Each half should have a rainbow look.
STEP 10
Repeat Step 9 to create a total of 15 half sections of cane. Two of these will be set aside for the earrings.
STEP 11
String the first half of one half section of cane, one ruby red 6mm round, and the last half of the section of cane onto one carbon steel bead piercing pin.

Repeat to add a total of 15 cane halves and 15 ruby red 6mm rounds onto the piercing pins.
STEP 12
Place the piercing pins on the baking rack into the pre-heated clay craft oven and bake according to manufacturer’s instructions.

Necklace Assembly

STEP 13
String onto the 21-inch beading wire: one crimp and one Accu-Guard™ wire protector. Pass the beading wire back through the crimp. Pull the beading wire so the crimp rests snug against the Accu-Guard leaving approximately 1/4 inch of beading wire on the end.

Crimp, then trim the excess from the short end of the beading wire. Finish with a 4mm crimp cover.
STEP 14
String the following onto the beading wire:
  • Repeat this sequence to string 13 sets:
    • One 4x2mm smooth heishi
    • One medium blue 6mm round
    • One 4x2mm smooth heishi
    • The first half of one half section of cane

    • The last half of the section of the cane
  • One 4x2mm smooth heishi
  • One medium blue 6mm round
  • One 4x2mm smooth heishi
Repeat Step 13 to secure the strand.
STEP 15
Pass one 4mm jumpring through the Accu-Guard on one end of the strand and the loop on the lobster claw clasp then close.

Pass one 6.5x5mm oval jumpring through the Accu-Guard on the opposite end of the strand then close.

STEP 1
String the first half of one half section of cane (Step 10), one ruby red 6mm round, and the last half of the section of cane onto one 2-inch eyepin then form a simple loop creating a cane link.

Repeat to create a second cane link.

Tip: The half sections of cane are those that were put aside from Step 10 in the necklace instructions.
STEP 2
String one 4x2mm smooth heishi, one medium blue 6mm round and one 4x2mm smooth heishi onto one 1-inch headpin then form a simple loop creating a medium blue drop.
