Meet the Designer-Artist
Where do you live?
Anderson, California
What inspires you as a designer-artist?
My inspiration comes from everywhere--nature, Nick Jr. cartoons, furniture catalogs--you name it.
What materials do you most enjoy working with?
Right now I enjoy seed beads. Last year gemstones were my passion. Someday I would like to work with metal and crystals.
What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Bluuz
What inspired this design?
A dress I saw in a clothing catalog.
How did it come together? For example, did you plan it out or did it define itself once you began working?
Well, I try to plan and often draw my design beforehand. But sometimes beads have a mind of their own. In that case, I follow my instincts.
Share Your Background
When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
I was beadptized (baptized) in 2006. I wanted jewelry that nobody else had.
Who introduced you to beading?
No one.
Do you have an artistic background?
I don't think so.
How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and BeadsĀ®?
Online. I wanted a reliable company. I have no regrets for that decision. I am extremely pleased with Fire Mountain Gems.
What other hobbies do you have?
I enjoy sewing and cooking. I would like to try candles someday.
Beading Success
What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
Beading is my hobby. It relaxes me! My two sons are a full-time job, so beading is part-time for now.
If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
I attend craft fairs and hope to have my own website soon. The Fire Mountain Gems contest is the only contest I have entered so far.
Do you participate in any charity fundraisers?
Not yet.
Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
Be true to yourself and never give up. |
