Red Sparkly Bracelet
Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?
I live in Naperville, Illinois, about 40 miles from Chicago.

Describe your artistic style.
I like mixed-up patterns and anything sparkly.

What inspires you as a designer-artist?
I like making customers happy. It's been really fun to make jewelry for weddings for some of my teachers. I am happy when the customers are happy.

What materials do you most enjoy working with?
I enjoy working with crystals because they are so sparkly.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Red Sparkly Bracelet

What inspired this design?
The sparkly crystals go with anything, and the red really catches your attention.

How did it come together?
I planned the design by laying the beads on the table to get the first part of the design started. Then I just switched off between the sparkly crystals and some red crystals. I didn't want to put too much red into this bracelet.

Share Your Background

When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
I have a disability, so I got help from my mom to start a business making jewelry in 2010. My mom orders supplies and I make all the jewelry.

Who introduced you to beading?
My mom helped me learn how to measure so I can make bracelets and necklaces the right sizes. I like making my own jewelry designs.

Do you have an artistic background?
I always liked crafts and used to make bracelets when I was younger. I also like working with clay.

How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and BeadsĀ®?
I get beading magazines and saw an ad for Fire Mountain Gems and Beads. I like the beads and my mom likes the prices!

What other hobbies do you have?
I participate in Special Olympics and have won many gold medals, especially for Bocce Ball.

Do you belong to any beading societies or beading groups?
Maybe someday I will join a beading group.

Beading Success

What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
Big Bead Jewelry is my favorite job. I work part-time at my house. I get help from job coaches at my school. I am very relaxed and happy when I make jewelry.

If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
My mom made a website called www.BigBeadJewelry.com where customers order online. We sell jewelry at craft fairs and also to friends and teachers.

Do you participate in any charity fundraisers?
BigBeadJewelry.com donates jewelry for fundraisers to organizations that support people with disabilities.

Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
Think about what you like to do, and don't be afraid to ask for help so you can have fun while you work!
