||Meet the Designer-Artist
Where do you live?
Rice Lake, Wisconsin
Describe your artistic style.
I have an easy style that is constantly evolving. Sometimes ethnic, sometimes contemporary.
What inspires you as a designer-artist?
When I see a leaf or cloud or just a shape in fabric or nature. Occasionally just by seeing the stones or silver pieces.
What materials do you most enjoy working with?
Silver with natural stones, mostly turquoise.
What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
What inspired this design?
The long horn-shaped beads in your catalog.
How did it come together? For example, did you plan it out or did it define itself once you began working?
A knot of designing in my head and then letting it morph into the final design as the beads set.
Share Your Background
When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
Three years ago, as a gift for my sisters 60th birthday I wanted to give them something extra special.
Who introduced you to beading?
A small shop in Rice Lake and a lovely woman who owns it; also introducing me to Fire Mountain Gems.
Do you have an artistic background?
My degree is in interior design. I began paint, beading, and jewelry when I was a small child.
What other hobbies do you have?
I am beginning to go to art fairs, swimming, observing and refining antique architecture.
What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
I am in the process of creating a website. I plan on art fairs and I am in galleries now.
Do you participate in any charity fundraisers?
Yes. I demonstrate "how to" to cancer patients. This seems to take their mind of their grievances.
Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
Never say can't, just say "I'll try!"
