|Meet the Designer-Artist
Where do you live?
Fort Myers, Florida
Describe your artistic style.
Wow... my style is WAY out there! I've been embellishing my shoes, my paintings and next my furniture with flat back Swarovski rhinestones.
What inspires you as a designer-artist?
If it doesn't move, I'm on it to paint it or rhinestone it. Anything that doesn't sparkle, inspires me to change that!
What materials do you most enjoy working with?
Acrylics, stretched canvas, household furniture, clothing (shoes).
What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
What inspired this design?
I just learned how I wanted to paint the dragonflies and then decided that they NEEDED embellished.
How did it come together?
I never plan, everything I do are 'happy accidents' that even I am mystified by them and can't take my eyes off of them after completion.
Share Your Background
When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
I bead my own earrings ... you can find them on my website: www.bekkis-arts.com.
Who introduced you to beading?
Just seeing incredible work done already. I could never 'weave' beads so I just cut up my leather coat and made beaded earrings: http://bekkis-arts.com/jewelry.htm ... see lower part of page.
Do you have an artistic background?
Yes, all my life ... I am an award-winning wildlife artist, writer, musician and singer ... So, yeah, the esthetic creative arts are totally what I'm all about!
How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and Beads®?
My neighbor gave me one of your catalogues ... I almost slept with it after that!
What other hobbies do you have?
Writing (1st book is on kindle, next 3 are on the way in the next 3 months), comedy, singing (my own channel on YouTube.)
Do you belong to any beading societies or beading groups?
No ... I don't do groups and don't play well with people in masses ... LOL.
What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
I love to let my eyes go out of focus and watch the sparkle ... It's so peaceful ... I just rhinestoned a large metal dragonfly ... (It NEEDED sparkled!)
If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
www.bekkis-arts.com, but I sell more from my Facebook page.
Do you participate in any charity fundraisers?
No. I just make and take to a gallery that is showing my work.
Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
Never give up, think outside the bun and HAVE FUN and live in JOY! And don't expect to sell right away ... Put it out there and let it grow.
