Debbi Simon
Meet the Designer-Artist

''An art teacher once said one of my strengths was my use of color. I didn't understand this at the time. And, to be honest I still don't. When I try to apply the formal theories and rules of color to my designs it holds me back as an artist. I have learned to just go with my gut, and, it seems to work! As a colorist, color, pattern and texture are prevalent and play an important role in my art.…whatever medium.''

Share Your Background

Debbi studied art and design at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD). After spending a few years in the design field she decided that her passion was fine art and began painting seriously again. She continually experiments with different mediums. And, an introduction to beads added jewelry designs to her mix of mediums.

''My first love is painting. But my appreciation of different materials beyond painting sparked an interest in jewelry designing. I was lucky to have access to some really great products, and a need to create the designs I imagined in my mind, so it was only natural for me to start creating finished jewelry for myself. I have been able to share these designs with others through teaching and being published in national magazines and my first book Crystal Chic was released in December 2008. Playing with resin and metal clay allows me to add textures and build color much like wax and this form of jewelry making compliments my fine art and what, as an artist, I am about. It is a wonderful time to be an artist; technology has allowed artists to open up a world of possibilities.''
