The Whisper of an Angel

by Audrey Palmer

When I was 21 I was diagnosed with appendicitis. My doctor gave me medication to take and said if it started hurting too much to go to the emergency room. I was with my first husband at the time (since annulled, but still friends).

Anyway, we went to Breaux Bridge to visit an aunt and uncle of mine when it started bothering me. I have always had a high tolerance for pain and to me it was just a little nagging pain, nothing to worry about. He, on the other hand, kept getting worried. Then finally he said "Let's go, I'm taking you to the hospital."

When we arrived at the hospital, my temperature was taken and I was rushed to an examining room. There, blood tests were ordered. Once the test results were received, I was rushed to the OR. It was so fast, I didn't have time to think.

When I woke up a little while later, the surgeon came in and said "You are a lucky young lady. Your appendix was on the verge of rupturing." He described it, but you don't need to know that.

I believe that because of my high tolerance to pain, my guardian angel whispered into my then husband's ear to get me to the hospital. I could have died otherwise. I have believed all my life that I have guardian angels watching over me and this is only one time they have saved me.

Inspiration for Story: Heavenly angels are everywhere. You need to open your heart, not your eyes to see them.
