Righteous Beady Vibes
by Kristal Wick, Author, Designer and Instructor, Exclusively for Fire Mountain Gems and Beads®
There's no denying the power of the almighty bead and I know I'm preaching to the choir here but it's also commonly believed that there are many natural healing qualities of the gemstones and crystals we love so dearly. We're all drawn to certain colors, stones and beads; have you ever wondered why? Do certain jewelry pieces make you feel calm and others energized?
I'd like to chat about a few of my faves from the natural rose quartz that invites more love and trust into our lives by opening up our hearts, to moukaite jasper that enhances a feeling of safety when exploring the unknown. Knowing the powers of crystals may have you wanting to add a dash of specific stones into your jewelry creations to boost some of the depleted areas in your life (or your customer's lives).
Of course many of these properties are speculative with no hard scientific proof but I've always lived a more magical life believing in some of the "unseen" miracles on this magnificent planet, haven't you?
What's Going On in your Bod?
Prehnite is a beautiful milky greenish mineral that eases indigestion. Pair this lovely up with a splash of peridot that removes toxins and helps with liver and gall bladder issues and you're good for the next 50 years! NOTE: Slip a peridot in your purse to ward off pickpockets and muggers!
Feeling like you need an energy boost? See if some earrings made out of smoky quartz, tigereye and jasper does the trick.
Rainbow obsidian can improve a chronic condition and turn around a run of bad luck. Improve happiness and prosperity by making key chains for all your peeps using rainbow obsidian and they'll not only feel better but also appreciate the beauty of the stone.
It's All in Your Head
Anxiety, stress and fear are completely self-induced feelings of being out of control over our situations and surroundings. This feeling of powerlessness can trigger physical ailments and diseases. Try a bracelet made out of onyx, aragonite, malachite with some copper embellishments to chill out especially while you're at work (P.S. You may need one for each day of the week)!
With the fast paced rapidly changing times we live in, self confidence seems to be at an all time low, especially in young girls. Over time, self-doubt and low self-worth can definitely affect overall health and well-being. Why not use kunzite, aquamarine or blue lace agate to build a positive sense of self. Perhaps a sweet "first day of school" jewelry totem such as a backpack charm for your fave "tween" would help in this area. Make sure to add some grounding stones in your design such as black tourmaline or hematite to release any built up negative emotions. Unakite is recommended for dads and moms-to-be as it helps communicate with their unborn child. Rear-view mirror jewelry may be a delightful baby shower gift for expecting parents.
Rocky Road
Combine chrysocolla with rose quartz to calm and stabilize a rocky relationship. Make a tiny talisman necklace and wear it often at home for personal relationship help; use this combination in an office badge holder lariat for help with your boss and/or co-workers.
Cram It
Got a college kid cramming for finals? Pink tourmaline is the answer for enhancing studying and learning. A friendship bracelet for all her gal-pals would surely achieve an A+ in fun! Rhodochrosite helps your kid feel less lonely when going off to college; slip a piece in their suitcase.
Don't Forget Your Furry Friends
Animals are believed to be very receptive to energies and healing so don't leave them out! Soak some jade in your pet's water bowl overnight and remove it when they wake up for enhanced vitality, especially in seniors. Moss agate underneath a pet bed or crate will calm them down and is recommended for pets from rescue/humane societies that have come from stressful and super hyper environments.
For decades turquoise has been used to protect animals from being harmed or stolen. Hang some from a horse's bridle, glued onto a doggy collar, or woven between the bars of a pet crate to keep your 4-legged angels safe and sound.
Using healing crystals and stones in jewelry design is fascinating and I plan on intentionally creating more jewelry using particular stones for their healing properties. I'll include a hand-written hang tag listing the properties for each creation. Everyone loves that customized touch from the artisan!
