According to recent style forecasts from Accessories magazine, knits, velvets and other materials are getting bigger, chunkier and heavier--so metal wanted to join in the fun, too. The catwalk has seen an increasing amount of standalone metal pieces or metal adornments on everything from sunglasses, purses, belts and of course what we all care about most here: jewelry.

Cuff Bracelets With fashion heading towards new interpretations of futuristic design and high-shine or reflective surfaces, metal jewelry feels right at home. Don't let the implication of "heavy" get you down thinking pieces have to be an uncomfortable weight. The trend is just that metal materials are showing up more and more. Go for large cuff bracelets made from metal sheet or formed with metal clay and fired to become nearly pure metal. Popular bracelet designs include minimalist open designs, geometric and circular shapes, as well as asymmetrical cutouts and patterns.

Everything from belts to necklaces is seeing an increase of utilitarian closures including O- and D-ring clasps. The closures look clean and sleek, especially in shiny stainless steel or precious metals. Gold has certainly been experiencing a resurgence of popularity on all fashion fronts, making it an ideal choice for designer-artists wanting to give jewelry high-end appeal.

And let's not forget about chain, chain, chain. Layer multitudes of chain in all shapes, sizes and even finishes for a completely on-trend statement. Large cable chain looks especially fashionable when layered with smaller variations. Chokers are continuing their recent upward trend, and metal provides the perfect base material for shiny versions.

Lastly, ear cuffs and statement studs are going over the top with metal bases and embellishments. Wire shapes, spikes and more are accented by light-catching Swarovski® crystals or other rhinestones and studs.
