The Braided Look: 4-strand Necklace

Braiding multiple strands of small beads gives body to the design and creates visually captivating textures. These easy-to-follow instructions for four-strand braids will get you started.

- Bead, mother-of-pearl, white, round, 4mm (260 beads)
- Bead, garnet, 4mm rounds (130 beads)
- Bead, fossil, dark blue, round, 4mm (130 beads)
- Bead tips (8 bead tips)
- Gold splitrings, 6mm (2 split rings)
- Clasp, Screw-type (1 clasp)
STEP 1

For each strand: 2 mother-of-pearl, 1 fossil and 1 garnet.

Connect a bead tip. Connect all our bead tips to one splitring. Fasten split jumpring with a pin to the work surface.

Thread 130 beads.

STEP 2

Braid all four strands together, as illustrated on the left, for a length of about 19 inches, (strands will be in original order when finished). |
STEP 3
Connect the four bead tips to the other split ring, being careful to retain proper order.
STEP 4
Connect each split ring to one-half of the clasp.
