Sue Ripsch, author of “Classic Chain Mail Jewelry,” shows how to create the classic European 4-in-1 chainmaille weave while a helpful zoomed-in 3D animation helps make each step a cinch.
Pass one jumpring through two closed jumprings then close.
Pass one jumpring through the single jumpring then close. Pass a second jumpring through the single jumpring, creating a 2-1-2 chain.
STEP 2
Pass one jumpring through the previous set of double jumprings then attach double jumprings to the previous jumpring, creating a 2-1-2-1-2 chain.
Set the chain on a flat surface then spread the double jumprings so one is on either side of the single jumprings, in the center.
Tip: A pointed tool like an awl will help when separating jumprings.
STEP 3
Pass one jumpring through two more closed jumprings then pass through one jumpring from the bottom and center sets of double jumprings, along one side of the chain. Close the jumpring. Spread the jumprings so one lays on either side of the single jumpring. (One next to the bottom jumpring and one next to the center jumpring.)
STEP 4
Pass one jumpring through a second jumpring then pass through the center of the two previous center jumprings and up through one jumpring in the top set of double jumprings, on the same side. Close the jumpring, creating a third row.
