Hand-cut by a master craftsman to highlight the stone's natural beauty to its fullest, these treasures display exquisite translucence and vibrant metallic schiller. The diagonal drill holes give the drops a leaf-like appearance, especially when strung in clusters. Because this material is so rare in quality, these beads would be best in earrings and other designs that will protect them from knocks. Be sure to select very fine-gauge wire or thin thread to accommodate the tiny drill holes.
The official state gemstone of Oregon, sunstone is a variety of labradorite feldspar that features a brilliant, deep burnt-orange color with metallic inclusions called schiller. This effect resembles fiery sparks and gives this gemstone a magical shimmer, especially in natural light.
