Sometimes called "Amazon stone," amazonite is a mineral species in the feldspar group, a hard stone with a medium polish. The color can vary from semitranslucent to opaque. Amazonite is named after the Amazon area in Brazil where it was originally discovered. It is associated with deposits of granite and quartz and is found in parts of the USA, Norway, Canada, Russia, India, Madagascar, Namibia and Tanzania. Color may fade.
