What is a good gauge size for sterling silver head pins? I've been using some that I bought at a local craft store, but they don't say the gauge size. I want to buy silver 2-inch and 3-inch head pins. 

The most common gauge for head pins and eye pins is 21 gauge. These will make secure small simple loops, or you can make wrapped loops with them. However, if your beads have very small holes, you might consider using 24- or 26-gauge head pins and securing them with wrapped loops.
