Penguin Purse Charm with Sculpey® Souffle™ and PREMO Polymer Clay, Liquid Sculpey and Sculpey Acrylic Emulsion

Cut half a bar (about 8 ounces) of Sculpey® Soufflé™ poppy seed polymer clay and roll it to a 2mm thickness.

Using a craft knife, trace a circle in the poppy seed polymer clay, using a large circular wood component as a guide. Cut the circle out.

Roll two 1mm balls of poppy seed polymer clay, then flatten them.

Cut a quarter bar (about a half ounce) of Sculpey PREMO white polymer clay. Roll it to a 2mm thickness.

Cut out a rounded heart shape to be the face of the penguin.

Cut an eighth of a bar (about a quarter ounce) of Sculpey PREMO orange polymer clay. Roll it to a 2mm thickness. Then cut out a penguin mouth shape.

Using clear Liquid Sculpey, attach the eyes and mouth to the white face and the white face to the black circle. Attach the clay circle to the wood component using the same method. Make a hole in the clay penguin in the same place as the hole in the wood component.

Break the end of a toothpick so that it is splintered. Use the end to create a feathery texture on the penguin charm.

Tent the polymer clay and wood charm with foil and bake it at 275 degrees Fahrenheit (135 degrees Celsius) for 20 minutes. Do not leave it unattended. Watch to make sure the wood doesn’t burn.

Let the charm cool completely, then glaze it with Sculpey clear acrylic emulsion.

Cut a 2-inch length of silver-plated 4mm paperclip chain and string it onto the 25.5mm split ring part of a key ring set.

Using an 8mm 20-gauge imitation nickel-plated round jump ring, attach the charm to the end of the chain.
