Ear's a Statement: Wear a Single Statement Earring with Élan
It started with the French, as these things often do: the fashion houses of Dior, Céline, Vuitton and Marant.
Then it hit Hollywood: Jennifer Lawrence of the Hunger Games, Emma Watson of Harry Potter, January Jones of Mad Men and others.
Now, the single statement earring is moving out into the world and it has one thing to say: one is the stylish number. You just have to know how to wear it with élan.
How's it done, then?
First, be prepared to hear this a lot: "Hey, I think you lost an earring ..." Fashionistas from Harper's Bazaar to Vogue and Glamour to New York Magazine are adorning just one ear and, with a chuckle, assuring helpful commenters that they really did wear their jewelry this way ... on purpose.
Single Statement Earring
Just one earring, with the other lobe completely bare.
While some wearers are styling their hair to cover the empty ear, others are just boldly going forth as they are, like the models on the runway at Céline or Angelina Jolie on the red carpet.
Jewelry makers can make a pair of earrings and sell them as two separate singles. Or include the second as a "spare" or "replacement" earring for customers.
One Statement Earring with Accent Earring or Earrings
One statement earring, with the other ear featuring an earstud, hoop, earplug, ear cuff or ear wrap. This cuts down on the whole "Did you lose an earring?" and similar comments and helps create a unified look.
Create a complex earring for one side and a simple stud for the other--or consider making an unembellished ear cuff, hoop, ear wrap or other plain-and-simple style for the opposite lobe. This is a great opportunity to use up those single leftover beads and stones; lavish them on the statement side and use them sparingly on the other.
Additional Resources ...
Got multiple piercing holes on one or both ears? Use multiple hoops or earstuds on the off ear to balance the statement piece. Another popular style is to loop a single ear thread through multiple holes to create a spiral look.
Save time, too! Use our displays full of earstuds and create matching statement earrings to pair them with--or purchase from our finished earring jewelry lines and create a quick-and-easy earstud, ear cuff or hoop to pair with it.
